ZINC – The Pearl of Pennsylvania

The ZINC restaurant is the real pearl of Philadelphia, and the whole Pennsylvania, I can say. Everyone who ever visited this gorgeous French restaurant situated in the Midtown Village of Philadelphia, on the 246 South 11th Street, will agree that there is something intricately special about it. As an experienced restaurant visitor, I can say that I was there only once when visiting Philadelphia on a business trip; however, I was very much impressed since then by the French cuisine, and I even decided to write master thesis and write research paper about the French style of cooking on the basis of my impressions from visiting ZINC. When I made some inquiry, I found out that ZINC is the second restaurant endeavor of Olivier Desaintmartin who attempted to create a classical French bistro and offers a great selection of wines that may accompany any meal.
As everyone knows, the French culture of eating presupposes many courses in a meal; hence, when I dined in ZINC, I also had much to choose from. For the first course, I ordered Petite salad and Soupe du Jour; then I took Smoked Salmon with arugula and olive oil dressing which was particularly delicious, and I even tried to find out the recipe from the chef who refused to reveal his professional secrets (maybe it is right). Special thanks is for the wonderful fish dish called Raie Meuniere – it consisted of Seared skate fish, Savoy cabbage, with the addition of bacon in some wine sauce, which was absolutely great.
